Retired Art Teacher/Visual Artist- The Journey
It's time to get busy making my own art again! I taught art K-12 for over 25 years and in retirement I am back to what led me to teach art in the first place- my love for making art! My mother always said that if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would answer with "I want to be an artist". That stayed true throughout my life. My favorite subject in school, a favorite thing to do whenever there was time and materials and a subject to study for a career. I taught privately and in public schools K-12 for 30 + years. I loved the job and will NEVER regret one second of that time being with wonderful students.... but the desire to retire and to pursue excellence in my own skills and expression was calling!
My goal in retirement is to really push myself to be as excellent an artist as possible by immersing myself in making art. I am getting out there to explore my talents and potential by finding anything I can do to just be "IN IT"!
A common thread throughout my years making art is plein air. ..watercolor on location in Ohio and Michigan, and chalk landscapes to record what beauty I saw in places like Kiawah Island or Ontario Canada. I took a fantastic series of classes in oil in the late 90's and was truly hooked by the oil painting plein air process. Now in these "senior" years I have been focused on oil landscapes again and am loving it!
I also enjoy woring from photos in the studio or doing set up still lives. Sometimes plein air and studio are combined as with many artists.
This website is a beginning in getting my art out there for viewing. I will be looking for ways to show and sell and always looking for more opportunities to grow and learn.
Onward!
